Frequently Asked Questions
Can I edit my work description after registration?
Please enter all your data carefully, as you can not edit them later. Any user should have access to the same description, no matter when he or she is looking up the licnese. You still may send us an e-mail, in case you need to correct a typo urgently.
What benefits do I get from CreativDepot?
With CreativDepot you can generate improved awareness and visibility for your creative products. CreativDepot assists with managing your rights and creative powers. Where data lodged with us is made publically accessible, potential users of the work are able to determine at a glance whether and to what extent the rights are granted to third parties, due to the Creative Commons icon.
So you can also use CreativDepot as an additional marketing tool. In the event of legal disputes, producing the important proof of precedence can ease the process of clarifying authorship.
Can I revocate my registration or delete my account?
Once registered, somebody else could refer to the license of your work the other minute. That's why we do offer a withdrawal of a registration only in special circumstances, when there is a formal or legal requirement to do so, e.g. when we have been notified and we have proofed a copyright violation. Revocation requires manual interaction and exposes the work even brighter, as we need to tell the world that a work has been erronously registered under a specific license. Hence we also do not cancel accounts to keep the relation with your works.
What you always can do is to add a comment or make your work invisible, however the description about it remains visible.
What is CreativDepot?
CreativDepot is a web-based instrument that offers users the opportunity to upload a piece of work (e.g. text, graphic, design, image, video, concept) and digitally timestamp it. The piece of work, linked with the name of the author, can be used to verify the chronological precedence of authorship.
The operator does not check the identity of the user other by E-mail. However a user can be verified with CAcert.org, which is a Web-of-Trust”.
Can creativdepot help me dealing with my clients?
What are the registration steps?
Firstly, a user must register themselves. To do this they must enter their name and contact details and must demonstrably accept the terms and conditions of use. This data and the agreement to the terms and conditions are saved and stored. The user can then upload a file that contains the work or describes it. In addition, the user can define the conditions of use for their piece of work. It is necessary to accept the terms and conditions of use prior to uploading. Furthermore the user must confirm that they are the proprietary owner of the right of use pertaining to the work contained in the file.
How much does the use of CreativDepot cost?
The Kreativwirtschaftsdepot is offered free of charge by Kreativwirtschaft Austria. Number of registrations and size of the files is based on a fair use principle.
Can I also register a utility model or patent here?
No. In order to gain protection in the form of a patent or utility model you must run your technical innovation through the application procedure with the Patents Office.
CreativDepot does not establish any new rights, but rather improves primarily the proof of your authorship within the scope of the copyright.
ATTENTION: If you intend to register a patent, publication in advance of this should generally be avoided, as this has a detrimental effect on the innovation and could make the granting of a patent impossible.
Can I get a written confirmation for the timestamp from the owner of creativdepot?
No, but the files recorded in connection with the work are converted online into a printer-friendly version that can be printed. A confirmation of the time stamp and the Meta data to the file entered and which includes the intellectual creative work can be downloaded as PDF. It is recommended to use this opportunity and to safe keep the confirmation.
Will the work be visible to others?
The user has the option to choose whether an uploaded file is made visible to others or not. It is also possible to change this status after registration (after logging in, select the menu point "My Works").
A prerequisite for the visibility of the work is that the user has declared that they own all of the necessary rights to the work and that they expressly grant the operator the right to publish the work and to create a copy for the purpose of making the work available on the internet.
The description of the work remains constantly visible.
Which standard licenses are available?
If you grant the rights to use work in advance then a piece if work can be used under defined conditions without any complicated questions. If you do this with a selection of your pieces then this can act as a “marketing tool” for your work.
1. All Creative Commons license types
These obligate a user of your work to always publish your name along with the work. Furthermore you can specify whether your work may be used solely for non-commercial purposes and whether any changes to the work are permitted.
2. Public domain
With this, you declare that you are presenting a piece work as effective public property without any further claims.
This form of license is particularly suitable for musical pieces which other people should be able to use under specified conditions.
4. GNU public license
This is a licensing form popular for software, that enables users to further develop the code on the basis of your work. You protect your work from proprietary usage by registering the work.
5. All rights reserved
You permit no usage. You must be contacted prior to any use of your work.

The contents of a web page can registered easily as an html document.
If you wish to register the appearance along with the content then the complete website should first be saved as a zip file. There is a facility to do this, for example, in the Firefox browser by selecting “File / Save page as”.
The input field “Work URL” does not collect files from the internet automatically, merely a reference to the original should be entered here.
Can I sell my work here?
Anytime after the registration of your work you can define, which additional rights can be obtained for a certain amount.

We do not filter or guard any content, which is registered.
If you believe that your work has been copied in a way that constitutes copyright infringement, or your intellectual property rights have been otherwise violated, please register that work, for which you have all rights of ownership. Then you add to the WIKI page of your work a statement that you have a good faith belief that the disputed use of the other registrant is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
Then provide the following information by e-mail to the contact point of the service:
* the registration GriDs for both registered releases
* a statement by you, made under penalty of perjury, that the above information in the WIKI is accurate and that you are the copyright or intellectual property owner or authorized to act on the copyright or intellectual property owner's behalf.
In case of infringement disputes we can offer counseling or serve as a mediator. A financial deposit paid for by the conflicting parties or the party will serve as prepayment covering our efforts to help solve the issue.
What are personal rights?
Personal rights serve to protect the identity of a person from encroachments upon their rights to privacy and freedom. Furthermore, they can prevent a misrepresentation (or similar infringement) of the work.
When registering a piece of work you have the option to enter free text into the input field, stating whether any particular personal rights are to be considered.
Example: “This piece of work may not be used in a military context”
Am I giving up my copyright?
No, you are not giving up your copyright. A piece of work always remains tied to the author (at least in Europe).
You can grant various usage rights at any time. CreativDepot has pre-defined licenses available for this. The digital timestamp confirms that a particular file was uploaded to CreativDepot and stored there at a particular time. In the event of legal disputes, CreativDepot can thus ease the process of producing the important proof of chronological precedence with which to clarify authorship.
CreativDepot does not offer to determine whether this actually represents a copyright claim. Consult with reference media such as the iRights Portal for details regarding your rights in this digital age.

For more detailed articles about hash functions, see Wikipedia: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hash or http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hash_function
What is a Web-of Trust?
The operators of CreativDepot do not carry out any identity checks on users. However, various processes can be used to check the identity of a user. These are presented in so-called Trust Levels. The most simple process is verifying the email address by requesting a conformation message when registering an account with CreativDepot. This process is evaluated with a Trust Level. Anyone who has been identified with Web-of-Trust "CaCert.org" by two further persons with official photographic identification is set at Trust Level four.
